About Swiss Army Knives
In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. Thus began what would become the international brand name Victorinox, a combination of Victoria, for Elsener’s mother, and “inox,” or stainless steel. Today, Victorinox produces watches, luggage, clothing, and, famously, Swiss Army Knives. The original product dates to 1897, when Elsener patented the Swiss Officer’s and Sports Knife he supplied to the Swiss Army. Following World War II, American servicemen and women shopping in PX stores shortened the name to Swiss Army Knife, which lives on in English-speaking countries around the world and has become a metaphor for versatility.

I am very upset because in the set only was the flashlight, the knife was missing in spite of the package was close.

I was sent the wrong knife from the one described and advertised in the photo. This one is okay but not what i wanted. I’ll go to a store and get the one I like rather than trust the internet.

If you are looking for a robust general use knife, I suggest the simpler “Spartan”. The saw blade is not really usable. The rest of the blades are great. If you are carrying a knife for camping, hiking, or climbing, the lighter the better.
If you need a flashlight, buying separately is probably better. That way, you get what you want.
My feeling is that most people who buy this will not be buying for themselves, but as gifts that probably will be not be fully used.

How can you do much better than Stainless Steel as a primary material for making pocket knives? Victorinox delivers their customarily excellent quality with the Camper model pocket knife. The 10 tools all work great and the corkscrew can also accommodate the miniature screwdriver (available separately). The flashlight is very bright and the same size as a Maglite(TM) 2AA model. The batteries should last a long time since this is an LED bulb light. It’s slightly unusual that the “Swiss Army” flashlight is positive ground, but as long as the diagram is followed, this won’t be a problem. These two items also arrive in a nice and collectible metal tin stamped “Victorinox Swiss Army”. I’m very pleased!
